Client Background
Our CRO client empowers life science research with RWD solutions
Dive into the world of cutting-edge research support with our esteemed client, a leading CRO headquartered in the US, serving clients across the EU and the US. They are known for their expertise in conducting real-world studies and harnessing hard-to-access data such as free text notes, imaging data, and so on. The company offers data subscription services and data collaboration options on demand to pharmaceutical clients to support their research needs effectively. The client intends to promote value-based utilization of advanced real-world data sources to support life science companies in informed decision-making.
Challenge
Difficulty in identifying patient's eligibility for device use
A leading life science company already has a product that can be used during revascularization procedures. To improve the utilization of their product, the company intended to develop a patient identification algorithm for identifying patients who might benefit from their product. The company had approached our client to seek RWE and clinical informatics support required for developing the patient identification algorithm.
Healthark’s role
Developed & tested patient identification algorithm
Healthark supported the client in the development and testing of the patient identification algorithm through the following activities:
- Literature Review & Collaboration with KOLs Healthark conducted extensive research and collaborated with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to identify crucial input features for the algorithm. By analyzing the existing literature, Healthark gained insights into where these features are captured and how are they presented in the patient records.
- Data Source Exploration & Feature Extraction Feasibility Healthark explored various real-world data sources to understand the representation of relevant features. Leveraging advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques the unstructured data was analyzed. The foundation for the creation of the patient identification algorithm was laid by the logic created to extract the features of interest from both
structured and unstructured data.
- Algorithm Development, Testing, and Enhancement Algorithm Development, Testing, and Enhancement: We designed a working prototype of the algorithm using open-source RWD sources, and built machine-learning models to analyze the sensitivity of the identified features. To refine and test the model, licensed datasets with complete patient data (structured & unstructured) were obtained from data vendors. User testing was conducted to obtain feedback and modify the algorithm based on feedback.
- User Manual Development and Product Packaging To ensure ease of use while deploying the patient identification algorithm, Healthark developed a user-friendly manual and packaged the product for end-users.
- Deployment Assistance and Scaling Support Healthark provided comprehensive support in the development, testing, and deployment of the patient identification algorithm across health systems, guiding the sites through the integration process, tailoring it to specific IT infrastructures, and addressing any technical challenges encountered during integration.
